Butler Tutorial 06 (Linux) – How to Duplicate Patterns

Main Points

The main points of this tutorial include:

  • how to repeat patterns
  • how to autofill a pattern box

In this tutorial, we will cover how to repeat patterns using repeat and autofill.

To repeat a selected pattern, go to edit, repeat. A window will appear with four sliders labeled Across, Spacing Across, Down and Spacing Down. Across and down determine how many of the pattern you would like repeated across and down. Spacing Across and Spacing down determine the amount of space, in inches, you would like between each pattern.

Sometimes you want to fill up a pattern box with as many of a pattern as quickly as possible. You can do this using the autofill feature. Go to Edit, Auto Fill. If you constrain the pattern proportions, it will fill the pattern box as much as possible. You can see that it wasn’t possible to fit any number of the pattern in this empty area. To fill the pattern box entirely, do not constrain proportions.

In the Next Tutorial, we will cover how to reverse the direction of a pattern.
